Why World Ocean Day Matters at Eagle Wing
At Eagle Wing Tours, World Ocean Day feels less like a one-day event and more like a reflection of what matters year-round.
As a locally owned, family-operated company built around conservation, sustainability, research and education, it’s a chance to connect more people to the Salish Sea and to the wildlife, ecosystems and coastal communities that depend on it.
This year’s global action theme is Strong Marine Protected Areas for Our Blue Planet, and it aligns closely with what we’ve been working toward since day one.
At Eagle Wing, we’ve always believed the best tours do more than create memorable moments on the water. They help people understand what they’re seeing, why it matters and how responsible tourism can help protect it. That’s what makes World Ocean Day especially meaningful here in Victoria.
For guests visiting Victoria in early June, it’s also one of the best times to experience the Salish Sea in a way that feels both memorable and grounded in purpose.
For guests visiting the city in early June, it’s also one of the best times to experience Victoria’s waterfront in a way that feels both memorable and grounded in purpose.
Spend Part of the Weekend at Fisherman’s Wharf
If you’re in Victoria for World Ocean Day, Fisherman’s Wharf is one of the best places to spend part of your day.
Join us on Sunday, May 31 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for our 12th annual World Ocean Day celebration: a free, family-friendly event featuring lək̓ʷəŋən Traditional Dancers, live divers, touch tanks, crafts and 30+ conservation organizations. The event is organized by Eagle Wing Tours and the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority.
It’s one of the city’s most vibrant waterfront destinations and home to Eagle Wing’s floating office, making it a natural starting point for a day centred around the ocean. Between the colourful float homes, local food vendors, working docks and everyday marine life around the wharf, it’s an easy place to slow down and take in a side of Victoria that feels lively, local and distinctly coastal.
It’s also a place where Eagle Wing’s mission becomes visible beyond the boat.
Our work has always gone beyond sightseeing. Eagle Wing is built around four core pillars: Conservation, Sustainability, Research and Education. These pillars shape how we operate on the water, how we support marine science and stewardship and how we create experiences that invite guests to leave with a deeper connection to the Salish Sea.
World Ocean Day is a natural time to stop by, connect with our team and learn more about the values behind the tours.

Get Out on the Salish Sea with Purpose
If you want to make the most of World Ocean Day, the best next step is simple: get out on the water.
June is one of the most exciting times to experience whale and wildlife watching in Victoria. Early summer brings active marine mammal sightings, vibrant bird life and longer daylight hours that make time on the Salish Sea feel especially memorable.
Eagle Wing’s tours depart directly from Fisherman’s Wharf and are guided by expert marine naturalists who help guests experience the water in a more meaningful way. It’s not just about what surfaces beside the boat. It’s about understanding the ecosystem around you and seeing the region through the eyes of a team deeply connected to it.
That educational approach is part of what sets Eagle Wing apart. Our tours are designed to inspire curiosity, deepen awareness and create the kind of connection that turns a wildlife encounter into something more lasting. Every departure is an opportunity to explore with purpose and better understand the ocean beyond Victoria’s shoreline.
If you’re curious what’s been seen recently, our Daily Sightings Reports are a great place to start before you book. They’re updated regularly and offer a helpful snapshot of recent wildlife activity on the Salish Sea.
A Meaningful Way to Celebrate World Ocean Day
