The morning departure was filled with anticipation and hope that J pod was not too far off the beaten path. We were drawn to Jordan River which is a fair distance from Victoria in hopes that we would catch up with tem out west...unfotunately this morning was one of those days. Our effort took us over 80 nautical miles in search of J pod. Eagles & their nest, Elephant seals, harbour seals, Race Rocks lighthouse & reserve & the rugged rocky west coast shoreline, all in all a valiant effort & still a great overall experience. At the end of the tour our Whale guarantee was extended to all who were on board & invited back with our compliments whenever it works into their schedules. A lifetime guarantee. The afternoon trip was intruguing. As we were leaving the dock we recieved word on 5 transient Killer Whales near Smith Island (offshore southeast of lopez Island). They were heading west towards us. T30, 30a,b,c,& d were spread out searching and steadily headed out off shore towards Northwest of Hein Bank. We stopped in at Long Island along the way to marvel at an Eagles Nest and the two occupant's. Along with some harbour seals basking in the afternoon sun on Whale rocks we were experiencing a lot in a localized area. Back to the transients and they continued onward westbound out the Juna de Fuca strait. On the way home we detoured over to Chatham Islands and went through the shallow and narrow Strongtide Channel. The first nations own these island & once used them for hunting and gathering. They would discard their refuse into concentrated areas called shell middens. Great Chain Island and the Double Crested Cormorant nesting site is very active at the moment with over 150 occupied nests. Finsihing off the tour I threw the boat into a couple of figure eights to make sure that noone was asleep....They weren't! Yee Haa!
