Great sunset trip with J and K pods!

Our afternoon trip started out with fantastic flat water, but it was slightly overcast around Victoria and to the East (where we had reports of killer whales). We could see it was beatiful sunshine to the west, so headed out toward Race Rocks first, so our passengers could enjoy a bit of sunshine and top up their vitamin D :) At Race Rocks eco reserve we found many Steller and California sea lions, Pacific harbour seals and even a majestic Bald Eagle sitting atop Helicopter Rock (very rare for this time of year!). Next we proceeded East through an area whee we have been sighting many humpback whales. Without finding any in our first search area, we received a call of 2 humpbacks sighted near to the killer whales, so we headed towards Kelp Reef for a viewing of 2 amazing humpbacks. One of them arched its back and showed us its fluke, we identified her as BCX1057 and her calf. Next we headed over towards Spieden Island to view the newest member of K pod: K44 with his mother K27 (aka Deadhead). Next we viewed a couple large males (K25 and K26) and many more K pod females. On our way back to Victoria, we stopped by to see J pod as well (who was traveling a couple miles behind K pod). We first viewed J27 (Blackberry) who was off on his on and then we came across the “cookie crew” J22 (Oreo) and her offspring, J38 (Doublestuff) and J38 (cookie). It was a great evening and we came back to  wonderful sunset!
