J-pod split into 2 groups
An excitable group, we headed out of the harbour and came across some tall wooden ships the Pacific Swift and the Pacific Grace under full sail with a boat load of kids having a great time off the Victoria Waterfront. With flat water we buzzed by them to give our guest a photo opportunity then onward to Trial Island and stopped there with Mount Baker in the background offering some addition great photo opportunities. We progressed through the Great Chain Islands where we found several different species of marine birds Guillemots, Oyster Catchers, Cormorant and a Bald Eagle as well at Trial Island. From the Great Chain Ilets we went straight over to where the whales were which was right in the same spot where we left them this morning right at Kelp Reef off San Juan Island. Maximum spread really spread out killer whales feeding and forging working hard again to find their food, some echolocating no vocalization this round afternoon. We had a really nice experience with Blackberry J-27, who surprised us absolutely out of no where, by going under the water broadside and tipped his head up and looked up at everybody. Which got everyone pretty excited. But it was challenging the whales were very spread out, deep diving and that was a very rare occurrence not common at all. And heard that whales were quite a bit further north by Stewart and Pender Islands. So of course we went for a bit of a boat rip and we found several other animals also very very spread out by Mouat Point off Pender Island. So J-Pod split into 2 groups, water conditions and weather were nothing short of awesome, little bit refreshing on the way home the sun did disappear, but excellent experience and we were definately looking forward to that free hot chocolate by the time we got back
