The afternoon tour started in Oak Bay with the usual suspects of Harbour Seals, Bald Eagles and a variety of Shore & Diving Birds. From Great Chain Island we headed Southeast towards the ‘RA’ Buoy which is located a few miles Southeast of Hein Bank !!!! As we arrived on scene with the whales we noticed a maximum spread of animals as they were obviously engaged in some serious foraging (fishing) for Salmon !!!! During the next 30 minutes we got great views of mostly Kpod including some private one-on-one time with K20 (Spock) and her 8 year old munchkin K38 (Comet) :) The whales were swimming Southwest towards Port Angeles the entire time we were on scene !!!! On the way home we bumped into 5 Transient Killer Whales right at the ODAS Buoy… The animals were ID’d as the T30′s !!!!! The T30′s usually consist of 4 animals including a large male, T30A… However, on this encounter we had 5 whales present with a new baby Orca swimming with T30B !!!!!! Great to see a new addition to the family :)
