Hide and Seek with Transient Killer Whales !!!!!
A small group of Killer Whales were spotted passing through Race Passage at 0645 hrs. this morning. By 0900 hrs. the whales were seen from shore just a few miles South of the Victoria waterfront !!!! Five Victoria Whale Watching boats left the harbour at 1000 hrs. and scoured the waters off Victoria, Oak Bay, Discovery Island, Trial Island and Constance Bank with no luck
After searching for over one hour we decided to head East into calmer waters to check out some other wildlife. We made stops at Whale Rock and Long Island to see Steller Sea Lions, Harbour Seals and Bald Eagles. After a brief tour in the U.S. San Juan’s we went back to the West to search for these elusive Killer Whales. We stopped in at the Chain Islets to see Cormorants, Harlequin Ducks, Pigeon Guillemot’s, Harbour Seals and a mature Bald Eagle. From Oak Bay we headed Southwest towards Race Rocks but unfortunately all we encountered was rough water, but no whales
