Touring James, Sidney and Darcy Islands !!!!
Started the morning in Oak Bay at the Chain Islets looking at Harbour Seals, Pelagic Cormorants, Harlequin Ducks and Pigeon Guillemots. As we were leaving the islands a juvenile Bald Eagle flew in and graced us with his presence !!!! Very cool
At this point a call came into the whale spotting network that a group of Killer Whales was seen near the Zero Rock/James Island area by some crab fisherman. Reports also came from shore near Island View Beach.. After 20 minutes of high speed travel, we were up near Zero Rock/James Island. We scoured the waters around James Island, Sidney Island and Darcy Island for over 1 hour and were unable to find any of the so-called whales that were spotted earlier on. I had help from a Prince Of Whales zodiac but unfortunately neither of us were able to find these elusive critters !!!! After searching for quite some time, we continued East to Spieden Island to see all the Steller Sea Lions at Green Point. We had great sightings of the Mouflon Sheep along the South slopes as well. On the way home we stopped in at Henry Island to see the Peregrine Falcon and a brief stop at Kelp Reef to see more Sea Lions and Bald Eagles on the tower. I love my job
