Humpback Whale near Pender island !!!!! First Humpback of the year :)

Early morning reports have a Humpback Whale in the San Juan Islands traveling slowly to the North !!!! By the time my afternoon trip got off the dock at 2:00 pm, we had to travel way North into the Gulf Islands to catch up to the Whale. Within minutes of being on scene with the animal we noticed that it was quite small, maybe a sub-adult, and was traveling erratically in all directions doing long dives of 7-8 minutes. On occasion we were lucky enough to see the tail fluke which was black with white tips, therefore categorized as an “X” Humpback. After spending 40 minutes with this shifty little Humpback Whale we traveled Southeast to Spieden Island to see all the Steller Sea Lions at Green Point. Traveling along the South slopes of Spieden Island this time of year allows a great view of all the Sheep and Deer as well :) A final stop in Oak Bay to see 2 adult Bald Eagles and a handful of very lazy Harbour Seals basking in the sun. Another great day at the office !!!
