This morning’s trip started out with a stop in Oak Bay to see some Harbour Seals on the rocks. You could tell the tide was coming in quite quickly because they had their heads and tails turned up to keep out of the water. With just their bellies touching the rocks, you can see why we call them “rock sausages”! After snapping some photos of these cute guys, we received an update of transient killer whales near Active Pass. So off we went at full speed! We cruised thru the passage without seeing the pod and as we exited on the Georgia Straight side we still couldn’t see them. We searched for 40 minutes without luck, we we decided to double back and look for them near North Pender Island. Well, our lucky guess was right and we found them attaching a Stellar Sea Lion! We watched in amazement as the 5 transient orca jumped ontop of the poor sea lion for 50 minutes. It seemed like the older female whales were teaching a young calf how to hunt and attack. We would have stayed much longer, but we were running short on time! We headed back on a smooth trip, with lots of smiles onboard!
