T36b’s and company chilling out in the Salish Sea!

Today was glorious: flat water, not a breath of wind, sunny skies and loads of wildlife! Our westcoast adventure began in Victoria harbour at Fisherman’s Wharf and from there we cruised the shoreline in search of some of the smaller critters: We found a small feeding frenzy with some gulls and an asortment of diving birds, found two Bald Eagles in a cove being fed by a local resident (throwing food up in the air for them to catch at the waters edge.), and Pedder bay the actual location of where it all began. I speak of the ‘original orca capture program’ that began in the late 60′s. Off to Whirl Bay, where we drifted in a shallow cove and admired the local vegetation above and below the waters surface, and of course the Bald Eagles nest that was not to far off. Race Rocks was down current (flood tide) from where we were and so we saw a few California Sea Lions & Harbour Seals along with some very chatty Black Oyster Catchers. By this time, before there is a mutany on the boat and they throw me overboard….off to the killer whales we went. Arriving on scene with about 6 boats, the Transient Killer Whales were here…the boats slowly left leaving only two boats and all of these whales–there is an advantage to being fashionably late…hee, hee. The group of 6-8 animals were both close together and playful. What a sight!! Awesome day on the water, looking forward to tomorrow. :)
