The afternoon departure took us 80 miles (128 km) on a “Grand Tour” all through the U.S. San Juan Islands !!! Unfortunately we did not see any Whales this afternoon, however, we did see Steller Sea Lions, Mouflon Sheep and Sika Deer at Spieden Island. From there we traveled South down San Juan Channel past Friday Harbour and stopped in at Whale Rock and Long Island to see Bald Eagles and Harbour Seals. Afterwards we ventured Southwest out into the Straits to search for Whales and/or Porpoise… Near Hein Bank we were lucky to find a small group of curious Harbour Porpoise that swam around and interacted with the boat for about 10 minutes
Continuing West we stopped off in Oak Bay at the Chain Islands where we saw lots of shore and diving birds like Harlequin Ducks, Black Oystercatchers, Pigeon Guillemots and Pelagic Cormorants. A quick shoreline cruise past the Uplands, Willows Beach and the Victoria Golf Course and we were back in the harbour after 4 hours of cruising the San Juan Islands
