The afternoon tour took us North up into Boundary Pass as we were heading towards Vancouver to see J and K Pods. As we were passing Monarch head – Saturna Island, a large bulk carrier called over the VHF radio that he had just passed a small group of Killer Whales heading West down Boundary Pass towards Pender Island. A quick turn to port and within 3 minutes we were on scene with 6-8 Transient Killer Whales. Immediately upon arrival, I noticed T49C, a juvenile male sprouter traveling with half a dozen other whales. The whales swimming with T49C were identified as the T86A’s and the T124A’s. We stayed with these animals for approximately 30 minutes as they swam in a tight resting group Westbound at 5-6 kts. Afterwards, we continued West to Bedwell Harbour – Pender Island to see another group of Transients. The second group turned out to be the exact same group of whales that we had in the morning, T18′s and T2C’s !!!! We followed this group for 25 minutes as they swam quickly to the West from Bedwell Harbour towards Moresby Island. On the way home we stopped in at Turn Point Lighthouse where we were treated to seeing 20 + Bald Eagles in the trees right next to the house !!!! Afterwards we made our way down to Kelp Reef where we saw 3 Steller Sea Lions basking in the sun as they layed on the marker.
