The afternoon tour took us way to the Southeast to Protection Island where we encountered all of J-pod, K-pod and 3 L-pod individuals identified as the L-2′s. L2, L78 & L88 (Grace, Gaia & Wavewalker). For the first 45 minutes the Whales were very spread out as they were foraging hard for salmon to the West of Protection Island. However, by the end of the tour, the animals started to group all together and we got great views of the K13′s, the J11′s, J2 and J8 even came by for a brief visit
The Whales were now swimming East towards Point Wilson by the time we left them at 1700 hrs. Little K44 is looking great this year – the little critter was born to K27 (Deadhead) last July !!!! Big brother K25 (Scoter) was swimming right beside his mom and siblings the whole time we hung out with them !!!!! Later in the evening, I heard that the Whales entered Puget Sound and swam South past Port Townsend !!!!
