J & K Pod XXXrated whale watching: whoaaaa!

Holy smokes…whale soup with three options for this afternoon: two different groups of Transient Orca or J & K pod. We went north to the resident killer whales and on the way we stopped for some cute little harbour porpoise, a pair of Bald Eagles, some harbour seals, an amazing nesting colony of Pelagic and double crested cormorants…then we went to the whales. Perfect timing, they had just woken up from a resting pattern that had been going on for several hours (since the morning). They were breaching, spy-hoping, rolling around ‘in the hay’ so to speak! Just look for the ‘pink sea snakes’ as we say. The male Orca is well endowed to say the least at almost 5-6 feet long with prehensile control, they are very skilled. Orca are also one of the few mammals that mate for the sheer pleasure of it–might be a reason why Granny J2 is still kicking at 101 years of age. All the while they were very active, playful and chatting up a storm the entire time we were on scene…again a private show with wonderful animals with very human-like personalities all having a great time on the Salish Sea
