Description

CETACEAN: 34 foot, 12 passengers ‘covered tour boat'

If you do not want that 'open tour boat' experience and a new hair do, then Cetacean is your best choice. She is Victoria's most comfortable & personable covered whale watching vessel.  Cetacean offers three spacious viewing areas: an interior heated cabin with a washroom, viewing aft (back) deck, and an upper deck area that offers unobstructed viewing opportunities to see everything that is going on around the boat. Being a catamaran style vessel, means that she rides smoothly through the water and offers a stable platform for viewing.

*Our whale guarantee does not apply to the covered boat tours. The Scarab style vessel is quicker and offers a greater range to access the whales if they happen to be very far away.

  • On board washroom facility
  • hydrophone to listen to the whales
  • 3 viewing areas (one enclosed & heated)
  • 34 feet long (11.5m)
  • Is a custom built aluminum 12-passenger vessel (catamaran twin hull)
  • Has 600 horsepower, (2 X 300 Volvo D6 Penta motors which are the most eco-friendly diesels produced in the world)
  • Has a cruise speed of 28+ knots (32mph or 50kph)

Covered boat option vs. the Open boat.

Both of our open Scarab style tour boats utilize the ‘offshore hull design’ for maximum comfort and safety, they do offer slightly different experiences. Both of our vessels have a very personable dynamic which will allow you to maximize your on the water experience.

The difference between a covered whale watch boat and our open tour boat is this:
  • covered boats offer a heated cabin vs all weather two piece suits on our Scarab's.
  • the covered boat is much slower, therefore its' "whale range" is not as great
    • range equals better sighting success
    • 'Whale Guarantee' applies to the Scarab style boat only.
  • covered boat tours are shorter in length, which also limits access to whales on days where these wild animals are farther away than normal.
  • We offer the option of a covered vessel for those that really want to see whales but without the wind & water in their faces while exploring the Salish Sea.
